Las Vegas Spring Festival

LV Spring Fest 2013
Come and celebrate the Lunar new year with us at the Fremont Street Experience! The Las Vegas Spring Festival is a three-day celebration showcasing a variety of Asian entertainers, martial artists, and more. Korabo will be performing Friday Feb 8th at 745p, Saturday Feb 9th at noon, and Sunday Feb 10 at noon. There is no admission for this event.

Von Tobel Middle School will be having a carnival and the budding young Von Tobel taiko club will be fundraising to help support their art. Korabo will be there to show support and give a short demo at 245p. The carnival runs noon to 6p.

Children’s Festival

Founded in 1993, the Children’s Festival has continued as an annual spring event for 20 years. This year’s Children’s Festival will run from 10a to 3p. Admission is free and the activities include ongoing dance and music performances, arts and crafts, a variety of exotic animals from Roos-N-More, percussion workshops, and carnival games. Korabo will perform at 1p and run a taiko workshop immediately after. Check out the Children’s Festival website for more info.

A Taste of Asia

Korabo Taiko and Shima Time use traditional folkloric instruments and intricate choreography to create a special concert of exhilarating drum rhythms and heartfelt string
and percussion melodies at the Clark County Library. A demonstration of traditional obon dances will be performed by the Okinawa Kenjin-Kai Dance Group of Las Vegas. Doors will open at 130p and the program begins at 2p. Admission is free and but seats will be given on a first come, first serve basis. For more information, please call 507-3459.

Asian Pacific Dreams Festival

During the month of May, communities celebrate Asian Pacific American’s heritage by highlighting and celebrating the achievements and contributions of Asian and Pacific Americans. Attend this event to find all day demonstrations, cultural events, displays, craft activities, and lectures. This colorful and exciting event is free and open to the public of all ages. The festival runs from 10am to 4pm and Korabo will be performing at 1pm.

Korabo will be performing as part of a Japanese cultural show with traditional Japanese dances performed by Las Vegas groups. This is very exciting for us as we will have our odaiko on scene, as well as our other taiko and performers! The show begins at noon and tickets cost $40 per person including lunch! In celebration, LVKT will be putting on a series of concerts around the Las Vegas valley, starting with a fundraising banquet at the JACL Activities Center. Each of Korabo’s founding members began their taiko journey with LVKT and we hold a special place in our hearts for them. Springs Preserve Asian Harvest Moon Festival

The Springs Preserve will celebrate one of the world’s most time-honored holidays with food and live entertainment at the fourth annual Asian Harvest Moon Festival. Observed by numerous cultures throughout Asia, the Moon Festival is an occasion for family and friends to reunite for lantern parades and to eat moon cakes, the festival’s traditional food. The festival will feature cultural demonstrations, food, crafts and live entertainment, including performances by the Lohan School of Shaolin, Las Vegas Kaminari Taiko, Korabo Taiko, and Nani Ola Hawaiian Dance Company. The event runs from 11am to 5pm and Korabo will be performing at 1230pm. Admission is free for Springs Preserve members, $9.95 for adults, and $4.95 for children. Dragon Boat Festival

In recognition and support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, St. Rose will host the 4th Annual Rose Regatta Dragon Boat Race and Festival at Lake Las Vegas. The community’s collective paddle power will raise funds for St. Rose Dominican Hospitals and their WomensCare Centers of Excellence breast health services. Korabo will be there to support the event with a performance at 1130am. There is no admission for the event.

The UNLV College of Fine Arts and the Marjorie Barrick Museum are proud to join The Japan Foundation, the Japan America Society of Nevada and the Office of the Honorary Consulate of Japan in the Southwestern debut of this internationally touring exhibition. “Passage to the Future” is a concise yet broad-ranging display of contemporary Japanese art — a showcase of
sculpture, photography, filmmaking, painting, ceramic ware, and installation work — and Korabo Taiko has been invited to perform at the reception on Friday, October 18. Our performance happens at 620p. For more information on the exhibition, please visit the Marjorie Barrick Museum website.

Las Vegas Aki Matsuri

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Nevada is organizing the 4th Annual Aki Matsuri and this year it will be held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. Korabo has been invited back to perform as part of the entertainment program and will be on stage at 520pm. Korabo will also have a booth at the festival all day. A pop-up performance: Fukuburger We Are One

For the past several days, Fukuburger and other local businesses have been collecting canned food, clothes, and toiletries to aid in the Philippines disaster relief. Wednesday, November 20th will be the final day of collection of this campaign and Korabo will be performing at the Fukuburger truck at Gaudin Ford to support the relief efforts.
